Property: Daydream Homes: Low prices up in the Highlands
For the price of a parking space in Kensington you could buy a derelict house on the north coast of Sutherland at the mouth of the River Halladale.
Bell Ingram (0863 766 683)is looking for offers in excess of pounds 20,000 for The Barracks, the former servants' quarters of the chief of the MacKay clan. Historic Scotland has approved plans to restore the house to provide two reception rooms, a kitchen, conservatory and laundry downstairs and three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs. Grants may be available from Historic Scotland and the Highland Regional Council.
For the price of a garage in Kensington you could buy the slightly larger Big Barns (left), a row of derelict cottages originating from the 18th century, also in Sutherland. The property could be converted into a five- bedroom, six-reception-room house, and its two acres of wilderness could be restored into the once formal gardens. Bell Ingram is asking for offers in excess of pounds 40,000.
