April is home improvement month, with energy efficiency in homes being the most hard-pushed topic. The Government is striving to reduce the country's carbon dioxide emissions and homes are some of the worst offenders, producing a quarter of all emissions. The average home creates a massive 7.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year. Home owners can do something about this by having their home energy rated.

The Council for Energy Efficiency Development in Haslemere, Surrey (telephone 01428 654011) can put home owners in touch with relevant experts and also has booklets of how to improve your home's energy savings.
