London's new Velodrome for the Olympic Games, the remodeled Royal Shakespeare and Swan Theatres in Stratford upon Avon, and the extension of Germany's Folkwang Museum are all in the running for Britain's most prestigious architecture award.

Ruth Reed, president of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) that hands out the prize, noted Wednesday: "Creative redevelopment is a strong theme in this year's list, with a major museum extension [and] a remodelled theatre complex...showing how even with tight planning and building constraints, talent and imagination can totally transform existing structures and sites."

Here is the full list of potentials which for the first time includes only practices which have been shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize before (and with David Chipperfield and Zaha Hadid two architects who have already won it):

An Gaelaras, Derry by O'Donnell and Tuomey
The Angel Building, London by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris
Evelyn Grace Academy, London by Zaha Hadid Architects
Folkwang Museum, Essen, Germany by David Chipperfield Architects
Olympic Velodrome London 2012 by Hopkins

While the Stirling Prize recognizes the best new European building built or designed in Britain, the RIBA Lubetkin Prize does the same for the best international building outside the EU. Nominees are as follows:

Boston Museum of Fine Arts, USA by Foster + Partners
Guangzhou Opera House, China by Zaha Hadid Architects
Masdar Institute, AbuDhabi by Foster + Partners
The Met (high rise housing), Bangkok by WOHA
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, USA by Rick Mather Architects

Winners will be announced on October 1 at the Magna Science Adventure Center in Rotherham.
