Painter's home in Cheyne Walk features a famous fireplace and a view over the Thames

The house on Cheyne Walk in London where 19th century artist James Whistler lived - the first of his various Chelsea homes - is also where he painted one of his most well-known pieces, the Symphony in White no.2 as well as the Nocturnes series.

Now on the market with Strutt & Parker for £2,500 per week, the same fireplace that is featured in the Symphony in White painting remains in the house. The Grade II listed house at 101 has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen and three reception rooms. It also has a good view over the Thames.

Whistler lived in four different houses on Cheyne Walk and his Blue Plaque is at number 96. He probably painted most of the Nocturnes series at number 101, left number 21 due to financial problems and died at number 74.

There is a statue of Whister on the corner of Cheyne Walk and Battersea Bridge.
