The Carolina Panthers kept their play-off hopes alive and made sure that Dallas would be denied the NFC East title for the first time since 1991 with a 23-13 victory over the Cowboys on Monday night.

Kerry Collins, who overcame a sprained ankle, threw two touchdown passes and John Kasay kicked three field goals for the Panthers, who remain in the wild-card hunt.

Carolina have yet to face the defending Super Bowl champion, Green Bay Packers, and St Louis Rams at home.

They are now level with the Detroit Lions - and just behind the Washington Redskins - for the NFC's third and final wild-card position.
