Tomorrow: James J Corbett knocked out John L Sullivan in the 21st round in 1892 to become the first world heavyweight champion under Queensberry Rules.

Wednesday: Virginia Wade beat Billie-Jean King to win the US Open in 1968.

Thursday: The first televised Football League match, Blackpool v Bolton, was screened in 1960. Martina Navratilova defected from Czechoslavakia in 1975.

Saturday: The FA Cup was stolen from a Birmingham shop in 1895. It was never recovered.

Sunday: Arbroath beat Bon Accord 36-0 in the Scottish Cup in 1885.
