Greece has joined Finland in bidding for the 1997 world championships, following Mexico's decision to pull out as hosts because of economic turmoil. Greece, already named to stage the 1997 world indoor championships in Athens, wants the 1999 championships if the bid is unsuccessful. The International Amateur Athletic Federation are taking bids until 10 April.
