Britain's sprint relay squads both won medals on the final day of the European Junior Championships in Ljubljana yesterday. Individual gold medallists, Christian Malcolm and Dwayn Chambers linked up with the 200m silver medallist Mark Findlay and Uvie Ugono to win the men's 4x100m in 39.62sec. Britain's women snatched an unexpected silver medal behind Germany thanks to Rebecca Drummond, Sarah Wilhelmy, Melanie Purkiss and Tatum Nelson. Their time was 44.55sec.
Anzhela Balachnova, of Ukraine, set a European women's pole vault record of 4.36 metres at a meeting in Stuttgart yesterday. Balachnova set the previous record of 4.35m in Formia, Italy, two weeks ago.
