Diane Modahl yesterday called on the International Amateur Athletic Federation "to do the right thing" this weekend and clear her of any doping offence. An IAAF council meeting in Cape Town will decide whether to drop the case against her or refer it to an arbitration panel. Modahl, who has been fighting for more than 18 months to prove her innocence, has submitted further scientific evidence which she insists reinforces her successful appeal against a four-year ban at a British Athletic Federation hearing.
Three leading Nigerian sprinters, Mary Onyali and the twins Osmond and Davidson Ezinwa, have all tested positive for ephedrine and been suspended from competition for three months. The athletes said they had been prescribed a cold remedy which had not had ephedrine listed as one of its ingredients
