Sally Anne Short, the Welsh sprinter, has retired at the age of 27, having been unable to shake off the glandular fever-type virus she has suffered from for about three years. Short was Welsh champion at 100 metres and 200m from 1986 to 1995 and represented Great Britain as a junior and senior.
