THE FAMILIAR story of an under strength, under prepared England team had a familiar ending last night when they were trounced 84-64 by Olympic qualifiers Angola, in the opening game of the RTP tournament in Cacem do Santiago, Portugal.

Angola went into a 43-22 lead after scoring five consecutive three- pointers, with three of them coming from Antonio Carvalho. In all, Angola hit 13 three-pointers.

Closer to the baskets the damage was caused by David Diaz with 22 points.

Last season Diaz was released by Milton Keynes as being too weak to play in the then Budweiser League, but now he is on his way to the Sydney Olympics.

England play Egypt tonight and Portugal tomorrow.
