THE American Chris Fite edged Manchester Giants to a 68-65 win at Sunderland Scorpions on Saturday night, to keep them neck and neck with the champions, Worthing Bears, at the top of the Budweiser League, writes Duncan Hooper. But the all- English Guildford Kings stole the weekend's honours with an astonishing 64-57 win over third-placed Thames Valley Tigers last night.
Fite, a 6ft 8in forward, scored four of Giants' last five points against 10th-placed Sunderland, after the game had been tied at 63-63.
Guildford have no Americans, with the league still refusing to allow import-in-waiting Doug Arnold to play, but Karl Brown and Julio Politi provided the cutting edge while their defence ground Tigers into submission.
Tigers' Nigel Lloyd scored six three-pointers in Saturday's 115-94 win at Derby.
