Gary Player stood in the notorious Road Hole bunker and prodded about with his sand iron. The South African was bemused by the presence of BBC engineers, who were putting the finishing touches to their latest toy, a miniature camera buried in the face of the bunker.
The pounds 5,000 remote-controlled camera measures four inches by one and a half inches and the BBC hope it will provide spectacular bunker shots. The cable for the camera, the lens of which can move around like a sand crab to cover every angle, was laid underground five months ago.
