Billy Schwer has been withdrawn from his challenge for the European lightweight title against Angel Mona of France. Mickey Duff, his manager, has told him to take a complete rest from boxing for three months after he lost his Commonwealth title to David Tetteh of Ghana on Saturday. The injury- prone Schwer's face was gashed and swollen after the shock loss to Tetteh and Duff's decision may well have headed off the European Union, who would probably have withdrawn Schwer's anyway.

Antonio Cermeno of Venezuela retained his World Association junior featherweight title with a unanimous decision over Jesus Salud of the Philippines in Maracay, Venezuela. The fight, was Cermeno's first defence of the title he won from Vilfredo Vasquez of Puerto Rico.
