Gary Murray, of South Africa, retained his World Union welterweight title with a unanimous points decision over Juan Carlos Villarreal, of Argentina, in Pretoria on Tuesday night.

Andrew Golota, disqualified last week against Riddick Bowe in a New York bout that ended in a riot, is still wanted in his native Poland to stand trial on charges of assault and robbery. Golota, who emigrated from Warsaw to Chicago in 1991, could face a minimum of five years in prison if convicted. Three of the injured men in the brawl at Madison Square Garden have filed a pounds 3m lawsuit against the arena, Riddick Bowe and his manager, Rock Newman. Louis Calemine, Alex Vodofsky and Mitchell Sterlacci say in court papers that they were trampled, punched and stamped on when fighting broke out after Golota was disqualified for low blows against Bowe.

Bernard Hopkins stopped fellow American Bo James in the 11th round on Tuesday to retain his International Federation middleweight title.
