Lennox Lewis vowed yesterday to put on the best show of his career against Ray Mercer, of the United States, to force Mike Tyson into a title showdown. Lewis said: "I want to look great so the public and media demand a fight between me and Tyson."

Naseem Hamed has been challenged by Azumah Nelson to a winner-takes-all contest. The WBC super-featherweight champion said in the trade paper, Boxing News: "He will have to train three times harder than ever before to beat me. I'm going to do to him what he has done to everyone else and remember ... I don't talk what I cannot do. For pounds 700,000 we can make the fight. Tell Naseem I'm ready and if he is sure he will win, let the winner take all."

Robbie Regan brought the World Boxing Organisation bantamweight title to Wales with a stirring performance against Puerto Rico's Daniel Jimenez in Cardiff last night. Regan became the first Welshman to win a world title in the 8st 6lb division - despite the fact that it was his first official bantamweight bout.
