JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ, knocked down for the first time in his career when he was beaten by Frankie Randall in January, recaptured the World Boxing Council super-lightweight title in the rematch at Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The Mexican took a split decision after the 12-rounder was halted just before the end of the eighth following an unintentional butt by Randall. Under WBC rules, the American had a point deducted and that was enough to swing the result Chavez's way.
