Michael Ayers' world title frustration continued yesterday when the Tooting boxer's World Boxing Organisation lightweight bout against Russia's Artur Grigorian in Stuttgart on Saturday was called off.

The World Boxing Council light-heavyweight champion, Montell Griffin, and Roy Jones Jnr meet in a rematch on 7 Aug. Jones ill be intent on avenging his only defeat, on disqualification, when the pair meet again at the Foxwoods Resort at Ledyard, Connecticut.

Ubaldo Sacco, a former World Boxing Association junior welterweight champion, died yesterday of meningitis. The 41-year-old Argentinian had a long history of drug and alcohol abuse.
