Boxing: Wharton's ambition

Henry Wharton is convinced he can beat Chris Eubank when he meets the WBO super-middleweight champion in Manchester on 10 December.

Wharton took just 38 seconds to beat Zimbabwe's Sipho Moyo on Wednesday in Leeds Town Hall. Moyo came with dubious credentials, and although Wharton's left-hook finish to send him out for the count was outstanding, he did little to suggest that he was top-rank material.

Eubank was not interested in watching and had to do his posing at the top of a staircase, because the security service did not want him strutting through Wharton's fans to be at the ringside.

'I'm fed up with showing too much respect to fighters,' Wharton said. 'From now on, I'm going to show them exactly what I've got from the start. He (Eubank) said I was easy lolly and I'm going to make him eat his words.'

Wharton's manager, Mickey Duff, said: 'I'm even more confident about Henry beating Eubank. I took a calculated risk, but Henry came out with flying colours.'
