Boxing fans have been asked to pay £1 to attend the ceremonial weigh-ins ahead of Anthony Joshua’s unification showdown with Joseph Parker – with all money raised to be donated to the family of the late Scott Westgarth.

British boxer Westgarth died in hospital in February, after winning his light-heavyweight eliminator bout with Dec Spelman on points.

The 31-year-old was chasing his first English title fight and completed a post-fight interview after his victory, only to collapse backstage.

And after Dillian Whyte’s victory over Lucas Browne on Saturday evening, Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn announced the plan to raise money for Westgarth’s family. He also said Matchroom would double the amount raised.

“The tickets for the weigh-in will be made available on Monday from 11am, from the Cardiff Arena website,” he told iFL TV.

“The weigh-in will be on Good Friday at 1pm, doors will open at 12pm. It’s free entry, but I’m going to make everybody donate £1 to charity, which goes to the family of Scott Westgarth, who passed away recently.

“The Matchroom Boxing foundation will also match every £1 that comes in. So the ticket is free and there will be loads of entertainment going on, but there will be a £1 charity donation on every ticket. And they will be made available to the public on Monday.”
