Floyd Mayweather will visit Bolton as one of six venues on his tour of England next month, as he continues to tease Amir Khan over a potential bout in the future.

Bolton is, of course, the home town of Khan, and visiting the town is the latest in a long line of mind games that ‘Money’ Mayweather has toyed the Brit, who won silver at the 2004 Olympics, with.

Khan thought he had secured the lucrative fight against the American, who has won all 46 of his bouts, and went as far as pulling out of a IBF welterweight clash against Devon Alexander last year to pave the way for the fight to happen, and even signed the contract. Instead, Mayweather opted for the Argentinian Marcos Maidana, who he defeated on Saturday night. Khan fought on that undercard in Las Vegas against former world champion Luis Collazo, and impressed with a unanimous points victory.

Mayweather, who boasted that he earned a total of $70m (£41.2m) for his win over Maidana, will make an appearance at a £200-a-head sportsman’s dinner at Bolton Wanderers’ ground, the Reebok Stadium, on Monday 23 June. And who is a big Bolton Wanderers fan? Amir Khan.

The British businessman who has brokered the deal reckons Khan’s people have already shown an interest in being in the audience when the world champion takes part in a question and answer session.

"Floyd Mayweather Jnr is going to walk into a building with his 'Money Team' in Amir Khan’s back yard...I have to pinch myself that he’s really coming over here," Spencer Brown of the Blackpool-based sports broker business EBF, who have signed contracts to set up the event, said.

"It's the stuff legends are made of."

Mayweather hopes to continue his May-September cycle by fighting again before the end of the year, but it may be next May until Khan gets his fight against Mayweather because of the timing of Ramadan.

"I can’t be ready for that date [in September]," Khan said. "Ramadan doesn’t finish until the end of July and I would need three months in training camp after that to prepare for a fight of this magnitude. The earliest I can be back in the ring after my fight here is late October or early November and that will have to be against another opponent.

"I’ve told Floyd that and he assures me I’m still on his list. Of course I am still pursuing the fight with him but the next window for that is this time next year."
