Floyd Mayweather vs Amir Khan? Khan says there is 'more than a 50%' chance of fight taking place this year

Amir Khan says that he believes there is "more than a 50% chance" of him facing Floyd Mayweather in September.

The unbeaten Mayweather, who defeated Manny Pacquiao in the richest fight in boxing history earlier this month, is set to have just one more bout.

Mayweather has beaten all 48 of his previous opponents, and has one more contest left of his deal with broadcasters ShowTime. The 38-year-old had said that it will be his final bout before hanging up his gloves.

Bolton's Khan takes on Chris Algieri first on 30 May.

"There has been a lot of talk that it will be September when Mayweather is back in the ring again," Khan told BBC Radio 5 live.

"I am not going to chase it like I used to chase it. I am going to keep on fighting and if it comes, it comes."

Asked if there was a 50-50 chance of the fight taking place, he replied: "I think it could be better than that.

"I want to focus on Chris Algieri right now but I really think it can happen."

Khan has added that his commitment to the Muslim festival of Ramadan will not affect his preparations for the fight.

"I can work around it. I am spending more time in the gym before and after training camps, so when I join the camps I am half-way there.

"I am happy at this weight and feel comfortable. I think I can do the September fight if it happens.
