Gennady Golovkin vs Saul Alvarez rematch in jeopardy as T-Mobile Arena offers ticket refunds to fans
The fight was first thrown into doubt after Canelo tested positive for a banned substance clenbuterol

Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez’s long-awaited rematch is in jeopardy after it emerged the T-Mobile Arena, which was set to stage the fight on May 5, is offering refunds on the middleweight bout.
The fight was first thrown into doubt after Canelo tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol, adverse results he blame on meat contamination.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission is currently investigating the Mexican, who remains under provisional suspension ahead of his hearing on April 18 when authorities will decide whether to go ahead with the fight.
But MGM Resorts, which owns the T-Mobile Arena, are now offering refunds tickets for the bout in light of concerns the fight will be cancelled.
“If a fan requests a refund for the Canelo-GGG 2 fight they may receive one, in full, at the original point of purchase,” an MGM Resorts International spokesman told ESPN.
Álvarez, a two-divsion world champion from Guadalajara, faces a ban of nine to 24 months for his failed drug test. Even a reduced suspension would prevent Álvarez from participating in the 5 May fight.
Nevada Athletic Commission filed a formal anti-doping complaint against Álvarez on Thursday which appeared to invalidate the Mexican’s defence that he had consumed clenbuterol via contaminated meat.
“Alvarez’s utilization, ingestion and/or consumption of Clenbuterol, whether intentional or not, constitutes an anti-doping violation,” a statement said.
