Wladimir Klitschko has been accused of cheating just minutes before his world heavyweight title fight with Tyson Fury, with the fight on the verge of being called off.

While the undercard played out in the ring in the Espirit Arena in Dusseldorf, an argument was taking place between Peter Fury, uncle and trainer of Tyson Fury, and Klitschko’s trainer Bernd Bonte, after the world champion had his gloves wrapped without anyone in attendance to witness it from Fury’s camp.

Peter Fury threatened to call off the fight before storming away shouting “it’s off, the fight’s off!”.

Minutes later, Klitschko was forced to cut off the tape around his fists and have them re-wrapped under the watchful eye of one of Fury’s training team.

Afterwards, Klitschko’s brother, Vitali Klitschko, attended Fury’s changing room to observe the British contender’s gloves going on.

It adds to the controversial build-up to fight after Fury was unable to get hold of his preferred gloves until Friday morning, and the fight was thrown in further doubt when two extra layers of sponge were seen under the ring canvas, making it extra spongy and draining on the legs.

With Fury again threatening to cancel the fight, Klitschko’s team agreed to remove the two layers of mattress.
