South Africa levelled the one-day international series against England with Anina Burger hitting two runs off the last ball in an enthralling game at Taunton yesterday.

Burger's shot was fumbled before it was retrieved, enabling the No 7 bat to complete two runs when only one was really on.

England should have won the game after 17-year-old Charlotte Edwards scored her maiden century and Jane Cassar the game's fastest 50 - in 36 balls.

They made 253 in their 50 overs, but poor fielding and five dropped catches gave South Africa numerous chances, and they took full advantage to win by two wickets.

Denise Reid, who hit 56, was dropped twice and an easy chance from a skied shot by Burger was fumbled by the England captain, Karen Smithies, with only four balls left.
