Norm Hadley, the former captain, is likely to be left out of Canada's World Cup squad following outspoken criticism of the team, an official said yesterday.
Hadley, who plays for Wasps in the Pilkington Cup semi-finals against Leicester on Saturday, has been omitted from the Canadian squad leaving on Sunday for a five-match tour to Fiji and New Zealand. "Hadley is unlikely to be picked [for the World Cup]," Rugby Canada's spokesman, Peter McMullan, said, adding that Canada's squad for the World Cup in South Africa, beginning in May, would probably be announced in Ottawa after the tour.
Last month, Hadley was quoted in the Victoria Times Colonist newspaper as saying Canada's national team were a laughing-stock and heading for ruin.
