China, tipped to meet Indonesia in the final of the Thomas Cup men's world team championship, took a big step towards the last four by crushing England, 5-0, in their second Group A match in Hong Kong yesterday. Victory over Sweden on Tuesday will assure the Chinese of a semi-final place.
England, who took just one game off China, are bottom of the section without a point from their two matches. They are unable to reach the semis. Chris Hunt and James Anderson took the first game of their doubles match, but that proved to be the high point of the tie for England.
