John Josephs has stepped down after seven years as chairman of the county champions, Leicestershire, and will be replaced by Roger Goadby. David Collier has been appointed chief executive.

Aravinda de Silva ended his Test run drought with a timely 79 not out to lead a Sri Lanka fightback against Pakistan on the fourth day of the first Test yesterday. De Silva and his captain Arjuna Ranatunga, who struck 58, shared a third-wicket partnership of 129, and Sri Lanka ended the penultimate day on 206 for 3 in their second innings for a lead of 158.
