The Cricketers' Association, the players' union, has been given an assurance from the Test and County Cricket Board that the country's 360 professionals can look forward to a rise in 1996 from the current minimum wage of £14,500 for capped players in the wake of new TV income worth £60m over four years.

Essex have announced a net profit after tax of £48,671 for the year ending 31 December 1994, down from £172,084 in 1993.
