Cricket / County Championship: Connor relieves tension at last

IN A tense finish at Bristol, Cardigan Connor drove a six to give Hampshire a one-wicket victory over Gloucestershire with a ball to spare. Gloucestershire could muster only 102 in their second innings, giving Hampshire a target of 211.

A century in each innings by Nick Folland and a 12-wicket match haul for the leg spinner, Mushtaq Ahmed, were the main ingredients of Somerset's 120-run victory over Sussex at Taunton. Sussex were set 350 to win in a minimum of 75 overs but slipped from 142 for 2 to 229 all out.

At Kidderminster, the West Indian paceman, Ken Benjamin, produced a deadly spell to assist Worcestershire to a nine-wicket victory over Derbyshire. Benjamin collected the last four wickets for five runs in 15 balls to leave Worcestershire needing only 50.
