Cricket: Lathwell poised
HAVING picked some of their Texaco Trophy squad to win it (Derek Pringle, Richard Illingworth) and others with an eye to the Tests (Andrew Caddick, Mark Lathwell) it is surely certain that, with the series lost, England will give Lathwell his debut in the third and final match at Lord's today, writes Glenn Moore. It is also the ideal time to reintroduce Mark Ramprakash on his home ground. In the bowling, the available options are the return of Illingworth or the inclusion of Dermot Reeve, called up yesterday to replace Chris Lewis, who has a groin injury.
Allan Border has indicated that Australia will approach selection with a long-term view. Michael Slater and one or both of Wayne Holdsworth and Brendon Julian are in line for their debuts. Border said: 'We want to win at Lord's to keep the momentum going.' England, having lost their last five Tests and last five one-day matches, need a win just to get into first gear.
