Heavy rain yesterday interrupted the Sri Lanka opening batsman Marvan Atapattu when he was 22 runs short of a double century on the third day of the first Test against Zimbabwe. Atapattu's undefeated 178, scored in 500 minutes, enabled Sri Lanka to reach 358 for six, a lead of 72. He hit 21 boundaries but it was an innings dedicated to survival, achieved through a high level of concentration. The Zimbabwe bowlers will now have to take wickets early today to avoid defeat.
