Cricket: Ringers cost Solihull
A LEADING Midlands club have been expelled from the Birmingham & District Premier League after being found guilty of playing "ringers" in their side last season. Solihull have also been stripped of the League's Challenge Cup which they won for the first time.
League officials launched a wide-ranging investigation after complaints were received from rival clubs that some of Solihull's players were playing under assumed names, including one unnamed Pakistan Test player. The League's management board have now decided to demote Solihull to the feeder Warwickshire League and declare the Cup win void.
"It was the most serious disciplinary issue we have faced," said the League's chairman, Graham Williamson.
Solihull are expected to launch an appeal against the decision.
