THE OPENING day's play of Sri Lanka A's match against Worcestershire had to be called off yesterday because the tourists' kit was delayed on a flight from Copenhagen.

The Sri Lankans had been playing in Denmark and arrived at Heathrow yesterday without their playing gear. Their aircraft developed technical problems and had to return to Copenhagen. As a result they did not reach their Worcestershire base, in Malvern, until 1am.

Their luggage, however, had not been transferred to their later flight. It eventually arrived at Heathrow yesterday morning, but was held up in transit because of a traffic jam on the M40.

Play was called off at 4pm, and the match will now become a three-day affair, starting today at 11.45am.
