The former Sussex captain, Alan Wells, 35, joined Kent yesterday on a five-year contract, with the 37-year-old batsman Neil Taylor moving in the opposite direction.
Wells, who spent 16 years with Sussex, was dismissed as captain eight weeks ago and this led him to making the decision to finish his career with another county, with his release granted last month. "The recent exodus of players from Hove is not the reason for my departure," Wells said. "The captaincy issue initiated all the upheaval. It is time for me now to look forward and not back."
Chris Adams, the Derbyshire batsman, has been fined by his county for saying he wanted to leave the club. The 26-year-old claimed he was desperate to move from the County Ground and offered to buy out the remaining two years of his contract. Derbyshire refused to say how much Adams had been fined.
