Ankit Keshri has died after colliding with a team-mate as they collided whilst trying to take a catch in a match on Friday.
The 20-year-old, on the field as a substitute fielder, reportedly gained consciousness after the collision in Kolkata, but later suffered a cardiac arrest and died on Monday.
Keshri (pictured above, via Facebook) is a former captain of Bengal's under-19 state team.
"It's so unfortunate," Bengal cricket association's Subir Ganguly, told the BBC.
"He was such a promising cricketer and for him to pass away in such a manner is difficult to swallow."
According to local media, team-mate Shivsagar Singh witnessed Keshri being struck in the head and neck region by the knee of Sourav Mondal, who was bowling.
