Australian batsman Usman Khawaja has been captured on film squeezing his team-mate’s bottom during the national anthems ahead of the one-day international with New Zealand.

The Aussies were lined up at the Wellington Cake Tin ahead of the match when Khawaja was caught repeatedly stroking and clenching the bottom of Adam Zampa.

When asked on Twitter about the incident, which has attracted more than 212,000 views online, the 29-year-old said: “Oh boy. Didn't realise there were cameras filming from behind.”

Zampa, the recipient of the treatment, was making his Australia debut and went on the take 2-57 while Khawaja, who had been left out for the opening game of the series, scored a half-century as the green and gold secured a four-wicket victory.

"It was all consensual. Just having a joke with the debutant, he added."

New Zealand sports show The Crowd Goes Wild spotted the incident and posted the 12-second clip on its Facebook page.

Zampa has since been named in Australia’s Twenty20 World Cup squad.
