Australia battered England with a display of confident, aggressive strokeplay, before declaring on 641-4 this afternoon in the fifth Ashes test at The Oval.

Australia' s batsmen were in imperious form. Captain Steve Waugh was unbeaten on 157, with Damien Martyn on 64 not out.

In the afternoon session, Mark Waugh was bowled by Darren Gough after a fine 120. Gilchrist was Afzaal's first test victim, caught by Ramprakash.
