Australia cantered to a five-wicket victory over South Africa at Newlands Friday in the second of three-one day internationals, reaching their 145-run target with plenty to spare.

A blistering 50 off 32 balls by man of the match Damien Martyn set the visitors on their way, an onslaught from which the South Africans were unable to recover.

Martyn was abth over, even before the halfway mark of the innings was reached.

South Africa's bowlers were smashed to all corners of the park, but not before Jacques Kallis caused a little flutter in the Australian innings by taking three wickets inside the first four overs.

But it was one-way traffic after that, as South Africa's 144 for five was just not enough of a target.

South Africa crumbled before some fine pace bowling, especially from Brett Lee, who took three for 32, and Glenn McGrath who took two for a just 13.

Only Gary Kirsten and Lance Klusener made contributions of any substance, making 34 each, Klusener being undefeated at the end of the innings.

South Africa's cricket team, reeling after revelations about the dealings of captain Hansie Cronje with bookmakers involved in matchfixing, seek a second consecutive redeeming win against world champions Australia at Newlands Friday.

Under new captain Shaun Pollock, the South Africans Wednesday convincingly won by six wickets in the first of three one-day internationals, billed as a revenge series after the two teams tied in the World Cup semifinal last June, allowing the Australians to go on and win the tournament.

The United Cricket Board of South Africa has, together with South Africa's sports ministry, ordered an inquiry into the dealings of the South African cricket team, to be headed by a judge. The commission is expected to meet next week.

The move has been met by the approval of the International Cricket Conference, as the game battles to keep its credibility in the face of the fall from grace of one of the world's senior captains.
