Ben Stokes spent Saturday afternoon watching himself play one of the greatest innings in Test match history.

In lieu of any professional sport during lockdown, Sky Sports and BBC Radio 5 Live have been replaying England’s famous Ashes fightback against Australia at Headingley last summer. Fans have been reliving the extraordinary rollercoaster ride of the match, and so too have the England players.

Replying to fan who tweeted Stokes in to ask if he was watching on the sofa with his wife, England’s hero replied with a video showing the match on TV in his living room, but alas his wife Clare seemed to be happier outside in the sunshine.

Several of Stokes’ teammates also tuned in. “Well played boys good session,” tweeted Jofra Archer, before adding as Jos Buttler was run out in the final innings: “Oh no ... time to pad up.”

Batsman Joe Denly wrote: “If you’re bored whack @SkyCricket on and watch one of, if not the most incredible days in test match history, Goosebumps every time!!”

But the tension was too much for some: “Not sure my nerves can take this again @SkyCricket,” tweeted Stuart Broad. ”I might just wait for the end & join in with the celebrations...”
