England's women fell to a 5-0 series defeat here yesterday by losing their final one-day international against India by six wickets.

Sussex's Caroline Atkins (53) and Lancashire's Arran Thompson built a solid foundation reaching 134 for the first wicket, before Atkins was run out by the India captain, Anjum Chopra. Thompson went on to make 65 with England finishing their innings on 180 for 6.

In reply, India's openers also produced a strong partnership with Anju Jain and Amrita Shinde reaching 117 before Jain was caught by Laura Newton off the bowling of Thompson. Amrita went on to score 78, as India reached their target with three overs remaining.

The England captain, Clare Connor, said: "The 5-0 result is fair, but a massive disappointment. I am proud of all the players who have toured, several making their debuts."
