The pair batted through the 36.3 overs that were possible because of rain for an unbroken stand of 164, steering their team to 170 for 1, still 338 behind. When play was abandoned Moore and Hick were 73 and 77 not out respectively.

Nottinghamshire outplayed Derbyshire in the Second Division. The hosts are looking for their fifth-consecutive victory - a feat they have not achieved since 1925. They claimed 12 wickets in the day, despite losing 41 overs to rain, with Derbyshire still requiring 257 runs to force Nottinghamshire to bat again.

The visitors were forced to follow-on 331 behind Nottinghamshire's 551, losing their last seven wickets in 43 overs. Charlie Shreck then took three wickets to leave them on 75 for 5.

Darren Stevens and Phil DeFreitas hit half-centuries to help Leicestershire to 237 for 6 before a hailstorm washed out the third day of their match against Yorkshire at Headingley.
