The Surrey captain, Adam Hollioake, is hoping the England selectors continue to ignore the opening bowler Jimmy Ormond, who has enjoyed a new lease of life since joining the county last season from Leicestershire.

Ormond, who won his second cap on the tour to India in 2001, took 51 wickets to help Surrey win the Championship last season and played a key role in their nine-wicket victory over Warwickshire in the inaugural Twenty20 Cup final at Trent Bridge on Saturday, taking 4 for 11.

"How he bowled in the final is how he has bowled all year," Hollioake said. "He's a strong guy and he's hit the wicket harder than anyone else. That was the difference.

"We head-hunted him for a long while as the best young bowler in the country and he's been everything we hoped. Thankfully, no one else seems to rate him very highly. We're quite happy to have him taking wickets for us and not going off to play for England."
