Hussain captains indoor team

Nasser Hussain will lead a British team against a rest of the world line-up in an indoor challenge at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in October.

The teams will play "Power Cricket", a new game designed for indoors. The England captain's side will include Glamorgan's Matthew Maynard and Robert Croft as well as recent England cap Robert Key and his Kent team-mate Mark Ealham.

The rest of the world side will feature West Indies and Pakistan greats Courtney Walsh and Wasim Akram, Sri Lankan star Muttiah Muralitharan and the world's fastest bowler, Shoaib Akhtar. The two-day challenge will take place on 4-5 October.

"I'm convinced this new form of the game will prove to be dynamic and will attract great interest and support throughout the country and beyond," Hussain said.

Walsh is also looking forward to the game, especially as there is no chance of it being called off.

"I can't wait to play at the stadium," the former Gloucestershire bowler said. "I have fond memories of playing Test and county cricket in England – but not the time spent in pavilions waiting for the rain to stop."

The tournament organisers, DP Cricket, are hoping to extend Power Cricket internationally, with plans under way to stage more games, triangular tournaments and a league by 2005.
