Leicestershire are in talks to sign experienced former Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf.
The 37-year-old played 90 Test matches and 287 one-day internationals and spent a brief spell with Warwickshire last season.
The Leicestershire head coach, Phil Whitticase, said: "Mohammad is one of the guys we have looked at and we have offered something to him."
Meanwhile, the Hampshire captain, Jimmy Adams, has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the Rose Bowl until the end of the 2013-14 season. The 31-year-old played in Hampshire's trophy-winning sides in 2009 and 2010.
