Lord's towers plan dropped

The MCC have dropped proposals to build luxury residential towers at the Nursery End and will redevelop Lord's on a "stand-by-stand" basis following a committee meeting yesterday. Work is not expected to begin before 2013.

Plans for the residential blocks had been opposed by the club's chairman, Oliver Stocken, and its treasurer, Justin Dowling – and with Lord's having secured hosting rights in the latest tender for major matches there is no great desire for an expensive project. Stocken said the project is likely to begin at the Pavilion End with work on the Tavern and Allen Stands.
