Devon Malcolm claimed his 1,000th first-class victim this afternoon on a day which belonged to the batsmen in the County Championship.

Malcolm took the remaining three wickets he needed to reach four figures as Leicestershire endured a long day in the field against Yorkshire at Grace Road.

Malcolm, reached the milestone when he removed Vic Craven – but by that time Yorkshire had taken firm control.

The visiting side's Craig White and Matthew Wood put on 62 for the first wicket. White went on to match that score himself and captain Darren Lehmann followed up with 52 in Yorkshire's 296 for 8.

Sussex were in a difficult position after Kent closed just 24 runs behind at Tunbridge Wells. Martin Saggers claimed 6 for 36 as Sussex were bundled out for 180 before Andrew Symonds' unbeaten 53 helped Kent to 156 for 3 at stumps.

In the Second Division, Derbyshire were bowled out for 354 by Glamorgan. They finished the day well on top after Dominic Cork snared two quick wickets to reduce Glamorgan's reply to 22 for 2.

Gloucestershire bowled Worcestershire out for 287 at Bristol. Phil Weston (82) and Graeme Hick (79) shared a 122-run stand before Mike Smith induced a collapse by claiming four wickets.
