The Second Division leaders Middlesex are facing their first County Championship defeat of the season after Stuart MacGill's eight wickets forced them to follow on against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
The Australian leg-spinner took 6 for 54 as Middlesex were dismissed for 138 in reply to Nottinghamshire's 470 and he took two more wickets late in the day as Middlesex closed on 180 for 3, still needing another 152 runs to make the hosts bat again.
Their hopes of rescuing anything from the match rest on Andrew Strauss, who is 101 not out.
Shiv Sunder Das improved his chances of selection for the third Test against England at Headingley next week by making 250 out of India's 516 against Essex at Chelmsford yesterday. Essex reached 173 for 3 in reply with Andy Flower on 45 not out.
