Warwickshire wrapped up their sixth County Championship victory of the season yesterday as Glamorgan were condemned to their 11th defeat out of 12.

The champions made light work of their trip to Colwyn Bay, winning by 10 wickets with more than a day to spare. The maximum-points win drew Warwickshire back into contention to defend their title.

They were indebted to some poor Glamorgan batting which saw them reduced to 188 for 7 before Michael Powell and Robert Croft offered some resistance with a partnership of 81 in 27 overs. They did enough to ensure Warwickshire batted a second time but it took Nick Knight and Ian Westwood only 2.1 overs to knock off the three runs required to win.

The Surrey coach, Steve Rixon, is to leave the club at the end of this season. Rixon joined Surrey on a two-year contract before the 2004 campaign and has chosen not to sign a new deal.
