Pakistan 679-7 India 145-0: Weather comes to Indian aid

The weather intervened on behalf of India on day three of the first Test against Pakistan, with play limited to 15 overs.

Bad light with some light rain before lunch severely curtailed the action and even the floodlights were unable to lift the gloom. Three more overs were bowled in the afternoon session but umpires eventually decided to abandon play.

India ended the shortened day at 145 for no wicket after starting their first innings at 65 without loss. Openers Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid were still there as they continue their rearguard action in reply to Pakistan's mammoth total of 679 for seven declared. Sehwag was just four runs short of a century when play was halted for the day while Dravid had made 37.

Sehwag flayed the Pakistan attack even though India have no chance of winning the Test and his policy paid dividends. With two days still to play Pakistan will need the weather to favour them if they are to bowl India out twice and take a lead in the series between the two keenest rivals in world cricket.
